The Gerontology Program at MSU Moorhead offers the only undergraduate major (as well as a minor) in Gerontology in the states of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The program is located in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice. Gerontology is the study of human aging as individuals grow from middle age through later life. It is a multidisciplinary field that integrates knowledge from sociology, biology, and psychology, as well as other disciplines such as economics and public policy. The study of aging includes social, physical, and mental changes in people as they age, the changes in society that result from population aging, and the application of knowledge about aging to public policies and programs. Service learning and internships, as well as classroom instruction, provide students with hands-on experience and the opportunity to explore various careers in the field of aging.
