The Minnesota Gerontological Society (MGS) invites you or someone you know in the field of gerontology to submit an abstract for our new Poster and Exchange session. About 250 participants from a wide variety of disciplines typically attend the yearly MGS conference. The poster and exchange session will be on April 25th 2008 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm.
The deadline for poster and exchange session submissions is March 1, 2008.
All accepted submissions must register for the conference. Information about rates and registration is available at the conference website.
The theme of the 2008 conference is: “Aging and the Family: It’s All in the Genes”.
The Poster and Exchange session has the following objectives:
- Respond to audience request in previous MGS conference evaluations for more opportunities for interactions and discussions on current topics in gerontology.
- Facilitate awareness of new research, practice and policy initiatives at the state and local levels.
- Encourage interactions among stakeholders in these three areas to develop collaborative and innovative projects relevant to the needs to older adults.
- Achieve our mission to promote current leaders and encourage future leaders in the field of gerontology by providing an interactive environment for students as well as others to share their research, projects, and issues for discussion.
We have developed a session format which offers the opportunity to present either an interactive poster or a more informal exchange in one of the three following categories: research, new practice projects and new public policy initiatives.
Since this is only the second year MGS is soliciting proposals in this particular format, we will consider submissions of any topics related to aging, as long as they meet our standards and criteria. Submissions of posters submitted recently at other conferences are welcome.
Each submission will receive a blind evaluation by a jury composed of the members of the MGS poster and exchanges subcommittee. If we have more qualified submissions than we can accommodate, we will give preference to those that have been submitted early, are relevant to this year’s conference theme and/or concern underserved populations in urban and/or rural areas. Finally, to encourage students to also submit, we will give preference to student presentations.
